Marion is the seat of Marion County and had 6,448 residents at the 2020 census. It was chartered in 1847 and named for Revolutionary War general Francis Marion. The Marion Historic District, along with the courthouse and several other buildings in town, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Catfish Creek runs just southwest of the city limits.
The county that took the most ice
Marion County took the brunt of the February 2014 ice storm. The National Weather Service measured about an inch of freezing rain at Marion, and the county lost power countywide at one point. Trees that were cracked but left standing then can still be weak today, so older storm damage is worth having someone look at.
Heavy rain from hurricanes
Marion has seen some of the region's biggest rain totals. Weather Service stations near Marion recorded 14.52 inches during Hurricane Matthew in 2016 and as much as 19.56 inches during Hurricane Florence in 2018. Saturated soil plus wind is how big trees get pushed over roots and all, so leaning trees after a soaking storm should be checked soon.
Historic homes and big lots
In town, large trees shade older homes close to the street. Outside town, homes sit on wide lots near farm fields and woods, where a crew may have room to fell a tree whole, but long drives and soft shoulders can limit truck access after rain.
Common calls around Marion

Common questions
Do you cover Mullins and Nichols?
Yes. Call with your address and we'll try to connect you with a company that serves that part of Marion County.
Should I worry about a tree that was damaged years ago?
It's worth having an arborist look. Cracks and broken tops from past ice or wind can let decay in, and the tree may fail in a later storm.
